Helena Juntunen is a young, inspiring soprano with an international career. Her fresh, flexible voice has received great praise. Further, her phrasing has been described as natural and colourful. Juntunen launched her career through various victorious vocal competitions, the most essential being the first price in the female series of Lappeenranta National Singing Competition in 2002. In October 2006 she was awarded with the Karita Mattila trophy. She began her vocal studies at 15 years of age with Airi Tokola. She graduated from Sibelius Academy as a Master of Music under the supervision of Anita Välkki.
Juntunen made her breakthrough at Savonlinna Opera Festival in 2002, when she performed the role of Margaretha in Gounod’s Faust. She made her US debut at the Connecticut Opera with the same role in 2004. On European stages, she first made her name taking on the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Vienna Festival in 2006. Since then, Juntunen has performed the role in Brussels, Nancy, Minnesota, and Vienna.
