This spring, Johanna Rusanen has been performing Krzysztof Penderecki’s music in Poland and singing opera and operetta in Finland. April saw the premiere of a modern chamber opera called Silvia and I by Markus Fagerudd at the Tampere Biennale. She will also play a part in a touring production of Emmerich Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin and in June she performs in Tuomas Kantelinen’s Mannerheim opera at the Ilmajoki Music Festival.
At Lohja soi, Rusanen sings music by Oskar Merikanto and his contemporaries with baritone Tommi Hakala and the Lohja City Orchestra on August 10th. Rusanen says she is enthusiastic about singing these Finnish works with a large orchestra, as they are usually accompanied with far smaller ensembles.
