The Artist of the Year at Lohja Soi, tenor Tuomas Katajala has performed at the Finnish National Opera since 2006 and as a soloist since 2009. He is known as a many-sided opera, lied, and oratorio vocalist both nationally and internationally.
Katajala has studied at the Sibelius Academy as well as in Amsterdam and Rome. He has performed as a tenor soloist in both Finland and abroad. Katajala has performed as a soloist for e.g. London Festival Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Hermitage Orchestra, Stockholm Baroque Ensemble, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, Katajala has performed in concerts in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, and Japan.
In 2002, Katajala took the first prize in the Jyväskylä International Tenor Competition and in 2003 he received the first prize at the international Musica Sacra competition in Rome. In 2004, he received the 2nd prize at the Gösta Winbergh Competition in Sweden. Katajala has also been an active interpreter of new music.
