The concert pays homage to the composers of Finnish romanticism. The main role is reserved for the music of Oskar Merikanto, which reflects the Finnish mentality years on end. Merikanto was a man of the people and folk songs acted as a starting point for a lot of his works. He found the themes for his songs close by; from nature, people, love, death, sorrow, and longing. The works performed at Laurentius Hall are rarely heard accompanied with a large orchestra. Lohja City Orchestra and magnificent soloists present the adored songs with festivity and vibrancy.
